One of only a hand full of Australians to be internationally accredited as a Sommelier, Peter is the consummate professional in an industry full of fly by nighters. Determined to never let himself fall into the stereotype of the condescending wine snob, Peter is well known for the easy to understand, colourful descriptions and wine language he has all of his own.

His ‘wine without the wank’ tastings he conducted in Adelaide before moving to Sydney were a huge hit with a public dying to learn – but afraid to ask. He is respected throughout the wine industry for his honest and unbiased assessment of wine, paying no heed to wine show results or reputation in the press, but focusing on what lies in the glass.

His work experience reads as a who’s who of Australian Restaurants – Peter Kuruvita, Philippe Mouchel, Micheal Voumard, Cheong Leiw, Stephano de Peri, Shannon Bennett, just to grab a few.

Peter has spent time on the other side of the barrel in an effort to further what he calls his ‘winery palate’ he has enjoyed two vintages in the Barossa Valley and one in Europe. He refuses to participate in wine judging competitions in Australia as he says they taste too many wines to give consistent and clear results. However has judged and helped run the famous International Wine Challenge for Wine Magazine in London believing the judging system Robert Joseph has in place to be the best and fairest in the world.

He takes tasting wine so seriously that in 1998 he published a user friendly self designed ‘wine tasting journal’ to keep track of all his notes.  It is now in its second print and is used by many professionals and beginners alike.

Peter has worked with the best both as a Sommelier and manager at such famous establishments as Flying Fish, Marque Restaurant and the Appellation Restaurant at The Louise in the Barossa Valley.
